Terrace End School
COMMITTEE MEETING Mr. W. B. Tennent presided at the monthly meeting of the "’errace End School committee last evening. Others present were Messrs. H. L. Cunninghame, R. C. Donald, J. Fyfe, L. Gardner, E. P. VVix, K. G. Chamberlain and the headmaster. The headmaster, Mr. A. W. Thompson, reported that the roll number was 592, and the daily attendances quite satisfactory. Mr. J. L. Davey had been appointed to the staff as a supernumerary teacher and commenced his duties on June C. Official visitors to the school during the month had been Mr. W. J. Boden (senior inspector), Mr. E. R. Hodgo (board's architect) and Mr. E. H. Lange (science supervisor). The half-yearly examinations were being held at present# and progress cards would shortly be issued to parents. Mr. Thompson had had handed to him by the relatives of the late Mr. G. T. Scott, the framed illuminated address presented to him on the occasions of his retirement from the school committee in April, 1905. This had been placed in a conspicuous position near the main entrance to the school. The visiting committee, Messrs. Tennent and Milne, visited the school yesterday. Mr. Tennent said the illuminated address was an interesting document of historical value to the school. It had on it a good sketch of the first school, the only one ho had seen. It was decided to write to Mr. George Scott and thank him for the presentation.
The following sub-committees were elected:—Messrs. E. G. Bennett and Milne (housing), Gardner and Wix (grounds), Fyfe and Tennent (baths), Cunninghame and McDonald (finance). A deputation from the ladies’ committee, Mesdames Johnston and Wilson, making recommendations in connection with the school concert, were received.
Mr. Thompson said that, if a gchool concert was held this year, it would be tho last. The elder children would be going to the Intermediate School, and a concert could not be put on by the younger children.
