Two Accused Sentenced to 14 Days’
(By Telegraph—Press Association.' NEW PLYMOUTH, June 20.
Sentences of 14 days’ imprisonment were imposed by the Magistrate, Mr W. H. Woodward, in court to-day on John Edward William Lamb, aged 37, tobacco worker, and John Angus Patteson, aged 31, labourer, both Australians, who pleaded guilty to stowing away on the Zealandic on the passage from Melbourne to New Plymouth. The men gave themselves up to the boatswain at 7.15 a.m. the day after the vessel left, and offered to work, but were not allowed to. The men stated in court that as a result of the Victorian bush fires they were unable to obtain work, and thought they would try New Zealand.
