From Our Own Correspondent. Old Boys v. Hunterville Seniors Showing a remarkable improvement in their forward play, Old Boys upset calculations when they defeated Hunterville by 14 points to 8 on the Hunterville Domain. The visiting forwards played an inspiring game, and led by S. Ireland, who played brilliantly, outwitted the opposition. Old Boys' forwards have not played hatter this season. To watch, it was an exciting match, both forwards and backs combining in fast, open play. At halftme the score was 5-all. After half-time the Marton team carried too many guns and rattled on nine points, whereas Hunterville could only improve their score by three, a penalty goal kicked by C. Wright. In the first minute of the game a Hunterville forward scored, hut then Old Boys settled down and O, Partridge scored for C. Calkin to convert. In the second half D. McLennan and S. Ireland crossed the line and Calkin kicked a penalty.
Junior Game The main game on the Merton Park was between the two leading junior teams, Old Boys and Hunterville (holders of Bengal Cup). The home side began promisingly and scored 11 points in the first quarter of an hour’. D. Ryder kicked a penalty from near half-way and then G. Laurie scored two tries in quick succession in the corner, the last one being converted by A. Duncan. Thereafter Hunterville settled down to play a constructive game. Their forwards went away in some irresistible rushes and, although half-time came with no further score the visitors had the better of the game. On resuming the visitors carried on the good work and K. Gibbs was rewarded with a try from a dribbling rush. This spurred the visitors to greater heights and they did everything hut score. Credit must certainly be handed to the defensive qualities of the home team. In the closing stages of the game Hunterville tired and Old Boys hammered away at the line but failed to score. The game was not as spectacular as patrons would have wished but was characterised by hard rucking Play in the forwards.. When the final whistle went Old Boys had a lead of 11—3 ®nd t -l iere fore took the Bengal Cup, and they are also practically assured now of being 1939 junior champions. Mr. W. H. Holland was referee.

Kia Ora, by defeating United-Tutaenui, are practically assured of being the 193: champions of Rangitikei and Feilding. Both teams took the field with an unbeaten record after having put up big •cores against the other four teams in the competition. Saturday's encounter was a really good game, with little separating the two teams, and had the score been two all when “no side’’ sounded It would have summed up the relative merits of the elevens. For Kia Ora, P. Royal and M. Bush goald, while M. Warren found the net for United-Tutaenui A. The men’s hockey resulted: Marton 2 beat Colyton 0; Feilding 3 draw with Swifts 3; Kia Ora a bye.
