Lawlor in Court
FIREARM A FOOT LONG Received Wednesday, 2 a.m. LONDON, June 6. Lawlor is bald-headed and was wearing a double-breasted navy blue suit and carrying a hat when he appeared in Court. The firearm was a foot long and had a polished wooden butt. It was produced in Court when Lawlor was charged. There was a series of loud metallic clicks as the usher fumbled with it when displaying it for the Magistrate. Detective-Inspector Hayward, in giving evidence of the arrest, said he told accused at the Gerald Road Police Station that he had seen him discharge the weapon produced at a motor-car in Belgrave Square. Lawlor replied: “It is my property. I possess a certificate for it.” Inspector Hayward said: “I told him the certificate did not entitle him to carry and discharge it in the street. ’ * When the charge was read Lawlor did not reply. During the evidence Lawlor sat in the corner of the dock fumbling a shabby fawn felt hat and occasionally glancing towards the press box. Thereafter the Court adjourned.
