Bullet Whizzed Past Royal Car
POLICE REFUSE TO REVEAL IDENTITY OF SUSPECT Received Tuesday, 9.5 p.m. LONDON, June 6. The Duchess was en route to the Haymarket cinema. The News-Chronicle says the bullet whizzed past the car and struck the wall of the Duchess’s house. Extra police guarded the house all night. The man detained is appearing at the Westminster Police Court this morning. Scotland Yard refuses to reveal his identity until he is charged. The Duke of Kent was told when he returned from a Masonic dinner at 10.15 p.m. He anxiously awaited tho Duchess’s return and met her in the hall. Sho made light of the incident. Tho shotgun used is believed to bo eff American type.
The shooting occurred a'« 8.30 p.m. in daylight. The Duke after having dinner with the Duchess left by car to fulfil a private engagement a few moments before tho Duchess and did not hear of the occurrence till he returned.
The children are staying at Goopins, the country residence. A window at the Earl of Harewood’s homo is now believed to have been damaged from a pellet from an airgun or catapult.
lhe Press Association says the police attach no importance to tho incident which occurred yesterday morning. Tho Daily Mail says Scotland Yard is investigating whether a bullet broko a window in the diningroom of the Earl of Harewood’s home, also whether members of the Irish Republican Army are responsible.
