Sir Hubert and Lady Ostler are expected to arrive in Palmerston North next Thursday, June 1. Mr. T. H. Verry, of Ngata Street, has been obliged to outer hospital and has undergone an operation. Kirkncss, a member of the New Zealand Institute of Accountants, has been appointed registrar of Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln. Sir Mark Sheldon, of Sydney, is a passenger on the Mariposa, which is due at Auckland to-day. He is making a visit to the United States and England. Mr. Roy W. Priest has received advice that he has been elected a Fellow of the Institute of Accountants of New Zealand. He has been an Associate of the Institute for some years. Mr. G. C. Kissling, of the staff of the National Bank of New Zealand, is spending a few days with his brother, Mr. H. Kissling, Manapouri Crescent, before returning to Newmarket, Auckland. Mr. Garnet H. Carroll, personal representative of Sir Benjamin Fuller, and Mr. Frederic McCallum, of the “Hollywood Hotel” Revue, arrived in Palmerston North yesterday and are staying at the Grand Hotel. Captain B. C. B. Brooke, who, from J 933 to 1930, with the rank of commander, was naval officer in charge in H.M.S. Philomel at Auckland, has been appointed to command H.M.S. Bridgewater an escort vesssel on the Africa station. Captain L. C. P. Tudway, D. 5.0., D.S.C., who last year completed two 3’eai‘s’ service in command of H.M.S. Leith on the New Zealand station, has been appointed to H.M.S. Wildfire in command, and in charge of the training establishment at Sheerness. Mr. 11. M. Patrick, deputy-chief postmaster at Auckland, will vacate his position to day. He has been transferred to the head office of the department in Wellington. His successor as deputy-chief postmaster, Mr. A. M. Rosie, has arrived in Auckland from Wellington. Mr. Raymond Lcibensporger, chief geologist of the Vacuum Standard Oil Company, will leave by the Mariposa for the United States to-day. Recently he broke a journey from the Netherlands East Indies to America in order to inspect oil boring investigations in the Dominion. Captain A. J. Charman, marine superintendent in tho South Island for the Shaw, Saviil and Albion Company, Ltd., j is to retire shortly, at his own request, after completing 49 years of service with the company. lie will be succeeded by Captain J. H. Gaskell, late commander of the Shaw Saviil liner Mataroa. Opportunity was taken by the Mayor, Mr. A. E. Mansford, at Willard Home , birthday party on Saturday afternoon, to farewell Rev. R. Simpson and to offer good wishes to him and Mrs. Simpson in. their new sphere in Nelson. Outside Palmerston North, the Mayor jocularly remarked, they were going to the finest city in New Zealand. Mr. Justice Kennedy and Mrs. Kennedy, of Dunedin/ have come to England for a year (says a London corres- , pondent, writing on May 4). They have been travelling since January, and have , visited Java, Malay States, Burma, , India (where a month was spent), . Egypt, the South of France, Greece and , Turkey. Three weeks were devoted to , Greece. While in the Mediterranean they made a point of visiting the battle area of the Gallipoli peninsula. Mr. , Justice Kennedy and Mrs. Kennedy hope to stay in England until October. Scotland has been included in their itinerary, and tho return journey will be made via the United States and Canada.
