Crippled Children’s Holiday Camp
A thoroughly happy family—and no long faces! This best describes the camp for girls in their 'toons held under the auspices of tho Manawatu branch ot the Crippled Children's Association at Manawatu Heads last week. The facilities of tho Women’s Institute holiday house were generously placed at the disposal of the party by courtesy of the Manawatu - Oroua Federations of Women's Institutes, and a jolly holiday resulted. Miss Aitken, child welfare officer, was in charge and had the assistance of Mrs. E. J. P. Simpson with handwork classes, in which several instructive crafts were included. A popular visitor for the first part of thp week was Miss Margaret Poole, well known in Guiding circles, and recently returned from England. Her interesting travel talks, told most entertainingly, were found enjoyable by all, as she transported her listeners to many lands with her clever word-pictures. Games in the friendly atmosphere supplied by an open tiro wero an evening feature and the happy faces and joyous laughter of the girls spok® volumes for tho success of tho social side of camp life. More or less in the nature of an experiment, the camp was conducted for the purpose of coming into closer contact with the children individually, which is only possible when small groups are formed. Miss Aitken and her assistants expressed their satis' faction with the result of the innovation.
