Control of Broadcasting Statements in Christchurch that the whole of the Government’s broadcasting would be controlled in the near future by the controller of the commercial section, and that the contract of Professor J. Shelley, Director of Broadcasting, would not be renewed, were denied by the Minister of Broadcasting (Hon. F. Jones) in a statement. “Prof. Shelley’s contract has never been considered by the Government,” said the Minister. “There is no truth in the suggestion that the commercial controller will take over control of all services. Certain changes are, however, contemplated. The majority of workers in the broadcasting service are temporary employees, and a certain number have been put off from time to time. Probably a few more than usual have been dismissed recently.” When asked whether it was a fact that 30 members of the Commercial Broadcasting Service were under' notice or dismissal, Air. Jones explained that changes were taking place all the time, and that certain changes in the service were contein plated. Certain transfers had taken place in the executive staff.
