Pahiatua W.C.T.U.

REPORT OF MEETING The recent meeting of the W.C.T.U. was very well attended and a special welcome back was given to Mrs. Fox. It was decided to make August a 11 pay-up ’ ' meeting. Samples of the excellent school editions of the Bible as supplied by the British and Foreign Bible Society were on view. The president thanked all who helped at the recent very successful shop day, the splendid nett result being £6 4s 6d. The meeting agreed that the officers should, sign the Peace Council’s petition to the Prime Minister encouraging him to appeal to other Governments to cooperate with him iu moving for a world conference as a means towards ending the present tension between the nations. It was decided to invite Miss Appleby, the new organiser, to visit the district at the end of May. The annual peace meeting is to be held this month.

It was decided also that Bands of Hope should commence early in June.

An article on the evil effects of alcohol on tho body was read by the president.

With a vote of thanks to the hostess (Mrs. Vile) and the pronouncement of the Benediction by Mrs. Hanford, the meeting was brought to a close.
