Masqueraders Make Merry

P.N. HOSPITAL STAFFS’ JOLLY FUNCTION Gaiety reigned supreme last evening at the Jade ballroom when the combined staffs of the Palmerston North Hospital held a most successful masquerade ball and fancy dress social. Everyone entered into the spirit of the occasioif and there was a large crowd to enjoy the evening’s revels. There was great variety in the fancy costumes and originality in their conception providing a difficult task for the judges. Among those present were Mr. J. A. Nash, chairman of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, and Mrs. Nash, also Mrs. M. Aitchison, member of the Hospital Board. Expressing his pleasure in the occasion, Mr. Nash offered his congratulations to the hospital staff on the fine gathering and the organisation so happily carried through. It was gratifying to know the fine feeling existing between the members of the staff and he hoped the dances would be continued and as successful as this third annual event.

A programme of old-time and modern numbers provided by a professional orchestra was entered into with zest, Mr. C. Bailey proving a most capable M.O.

Items interspersing the dances added to the enjoyment, those contributing being as follow:—Berryman’s instrumental trio; Miss Wills, tap dance, occompanied by Miss June Scott; Mr. Tubby Allen, eccentric dances, Mr. Lunn, ventriloquial items. Just before supper there was a parade of those in fancy dresses and the judges, Mr. and Mrs. Nash, Mrs. Aitchison and Dr. T. Pullar, made the following placings:—Lady, Mrs. S. Busst (Primrose Flour) 1, Mrs. Manning (Chinese) 2; gentleman, Messrs J. Price (Sheik) and L. Housiaux (Crinoline lady) equal first. Mrs. Nash presented the prizes, cheers being given for the recipients. Savoury supper was enjoyed, the evening concluding in time-honoured manner.

All credit is due to the organiser, Mr. Lunn, and secretary, Mr. A. Ryland, also committee members, Messrs R. Tutty, V. Manuel and L. .McLaughlao, for the great success of the function, aud thanks are also due to Messrs Berryman’s Ltd., and Medway for practical assistance so generously given.
