“ST. MARTIN’S LANE" METEOR ATTRACTION ON FRIDAY Charles Laughton, hailed as England’s finest actor, is the star in “St. Martin's Lane" which opens at the Meteor Theatre to-morrow, Friday. Associated with him is Vivien Leigh and one of the biggest casts ever assembled for a British picture. Charles Laughton, who takes tho role of a London busker or theatre queue entertainer, paused outside a (Shaftesbury Avenue Theatre to watch the buskers at work, in the hope of picking up some local colour. The busker was nearing the end of his repertoire; ho had recited, had given the queue a bit of “Hamlet," and was just about to commence on his piece de resistance—“ Ladies and gentlemen," he announced, “I will now give you an impersonation of that world famous stage aud screen actor, Charles Laughton, in “Barretts of Wimpole Street' and ‘Mutiny on the Bounty.' " Then he glanced round, saw Laughton watching with interest, gave a horrified gasp, cried “ Blimey 1" and dashed down the street. Larry Adler appears as a famous variety artist and plays a harmonica in certain scenes, while David Burns, celebrated American comedian, has an important role.
