Gratitude to Pilot

A gratitude cheque for £2O has been received by Captain J. E. D. Scott, pilot of the British Airways aeroplane which landed on one wheel at Croydon recently. The money, subscribed by the seven passengers in the aeroplane, will be given to charity, at Captain Scott’s suggestion. Mr H. Hirst, of Lloyd’s Avenue, who organised the collection, said: “We believe that we owe our lives and our escape from injury to Captain Scott’s coolness and steadiness.’’ The aeroplane circled the airport for nearly two hours after the undercarriage jammed, then “pancaked” at 90 m.p.h., taxied on one wheel, and stopped with ono wing-tip touching the ground.
