The Edwardian coiffures demand elegant ornaments to offset them and Paris designers have answered that demand with delightful wisps of veils, clusters of flowers and tiny be-feathered toques. Some of these head-dresses are ideal for the cocktail hour, while others are more suitable for formal evening or theatre wear. At top left is sketched a tiny ostrich ‘feather toque in Tudor Rose. It was inspired by the Marie Antoinette period. Cornflowers tucked away in bows of cyclamen and cornflower blue tulle and mounted on a tortoise-shell band, make the formal evening head-dress seen at the top right. Red carnations mounted on a band of matching velvet are seen at middle left. In the centre is another feather toque, in a flame colour with the feather curling out from the forehead. Next-to it is another of the floral head-dresses, this one of blue hydrangea tied with a cyclamen velvet bow. At the lower left is a smart black ostrich feather hat accented with royalty blue and vermilion feathers. The hat is worn perched right over the eyes, as are all these toques. There is a suggestion of the Spanish mantilla in the head-dress of black lace at the lower right. The lace falls over the shoulders at the back and a cluster of hand-made fuchsias in natural tonings is worn on top of the hair.
