Stop Work on State Housing
Investigation Into Inspector’s Resignation TELEGRAM TO MINISTER Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. A request to the Minister of Housing, Hon. H. T. Armstrong, to visit Auckland on Friday and investigate the causes of the recent resignation of the Housing Construction Department inspector in the Auckland district, Mr. E. Hedley, was forwarded to the Minister by telegram following a stop work meeting of the staff of the Housing Construction Department in Auckland. The meeting was fully attended by men from all sections of the staff. A statement issued subsequently said that the following telegram was sent to the Minister: “A full meeting of the housing staff at Auckland was held to-day. A report of the meeting was lodged with tho press to-day. It was resolved that, while affirming our loyalty to the Department and to the Government, we appeal to you personally to investigate the fundamental causes of our inspector’s resignation with a view to their removal, and that you meet tht staff here at a further meeting on Friday at three o'clock to hear our case and complete your investigation."
It was stated that the Minister was invited to a meeting some days ago but was not present. Those present were unanimously agreed that the action in holding a stop work meeting was necessary.
It is understood that the Minister and Mr. A. Tyndall, Director of Housing Construction, will visit Auckland on Friday.
