Porvision as to Smoking There are other minor proposals dealing with terms of employment, provisions as to smoking, etc. When paddocking is done by piecework, the piecework paddockers shall have the right to engage and discharge their own workers, it was claimed. All matters not specially provided for concerning the board of workers at any mill shall be mutually arranged between tho particular miller and the uuion. In the event of any failure to reach an agreement or any dispute arising, it shall be referred to an arbitrator mutually agreed upon, whose decision shall be final.

Agreement was reached on a number of minor clauses, but those affecting wages and holidays were held over. The employees offered to amend tho wages for paddockers and workers not otherwise specified to 2s 4d an hour and to accept the wages for youths as set out in the previous award. Tramming, it was agreed, should be by arrangement between the employer and the union. The provisions of the award, it was decided, should not apply to the work of cooks and their assistants. The provisions suggested by the employers with regard to smoking were incorporated, with the addition of a clauso stating the employees should not be allowed to carry wax matches. Other claims which met the wishes of both parties, in tho main, were in the previous award. The term of the new award shall be from the date upon which it is made until March 31, 1940.
