From Our Own Correspondent. School Affairs A householders' meeting was held at the I school on Monday, May 2. Mr. J. J- Hume ! (chairman of school committee) presided. I The financial statement presented by Mr. I D. Johnston (secretary) was adopted. Mr. P. Hansen congratulated the committee lon the recent improvements effected at I the school. A detailed report was prefivnt--1 ed by the headmaster (Mr. E. S. Baker), who stated that the senior boys and* girls now go every Monday to the Feilding Technical High School for woodwork and cooking classes respectively. Basketball and football matches had been played with neighbouring schools. Tennis had been very popular through the summer months. A motion of thanks to the teachers for their excellent work was c-ar-I ried and regret expressed that the assist--1 ant mistress, Mrs. G. M. Wilton, would be leaving at the end of the term. A motion was brought forward to have the giving at an evening at the end of the year instead of at the picnic in She autumn, which had been done in the past. This motion was agreed to. Mr. Hufne thanked the householders for their attendance and help. School Break-up and Valedictory A number of parents and committee members attended at the school on Friday afternoon for the breaking-up c&*emony and to say farewell to Mrs. G. M. Wilton, assistant mistress. A programme of songs, recitations and choruses had been arranged by the senior girls, Audrey Firth announcing the items and Merle Hume acting as pianiste. A play reading was given by Audrey Firth. Royden GrifIn, Ngaire Griffin, Ngaere Harper, Maisie Johnston and Ned Bawtou. Mr. J. J. Hume (chairman) thanked the children for the concert, which they had all enjoyed. He regretted that they would be saying goodbye that day to Mrs. Wilton, who had been appointed to the Manchester Street School, Feilding. Their good wishes would go with Mrs. Wilton in her new appointment. Mr. J. W. R. Stewart also spoke in similar vein. Mr. E. S. Baker (headmaster) said he regretted losing such a capable assistant as Mrs. Wilton had proved herself to be. On behalf of the school children little Carol Cleaver handed to Mrs. Wilton an electric toaster, Maisie Johnston expressing the goodwill of the children. During the afternoon Mr. Baker presented the “beginners’ certificates” for swimming which had been won during the visits to the Feilding baths last March. Those securing certificates were: Willie To Oka, Audrey Firth, Hana Te Oka, Maisie Johnston, Beslie Hill, Ned Lawton, Beauty Te Oka and Pearl Tawhiti. The announcement was made that Hon. Peter Fraser Minister of Education, would pay a. visit to the school on Thursday, May 11, .at 1.45 p.m. Tennis Dance An enjoyable dance arranged by the tennis club was held on April 29. The liali was artistically decorated in autumn tints, setting off the pretty frocks or the dancers. Mr. D. Lewer carried out the duties of M.C. and Messrs. Burnham and Hodges were doorkeepers. Bucky dances Were won by Miss Hansen and partner and Mr J. Sorensen and partner and a box of chocolates by Mr. J. Tantrum. Supper was served by a ladies’ committee headed by Mrs. E. H. Haythorne. A happy time was spent by those present, though it is regrettable that boisterous weather condi tions affected the attendance. Personal and General Mrs. Avery', snr., is in a private hospital, where she recently underwent an operation. Members of the Te Arakura Women’s Institute glee circle extend their sympathy to their leader, Mrs. E. A. Golding, In the death of her sister. Mr. and Mrs. S. Sorensen have left the district to again reside In their home In Palmerston North. Mr. and Mrs. G. Jepson and family, late of Bunnythorpe, have taken up their residence on Milson’s Bine. Miss Julia Kendrick has returned from college to spend the school holidays with her parents. Miss Nancy Russell is home from Wanganui Girls’ College for the sehool holidays. Air. and Mrs. R. Barnes, snr., and Mr. and Mrs. S. Baines and family have returned home from a holiday spent at Waitarere Beach. Miss Joan Sanne is spending the school holidays at Foxton Beach as the guest of Mrs. N. Wood.
