Illegal Trafficking In Refugee Permits
SYDNEY, April 14. Trafficking in permits for refugees to enter Australia has been revealed by a six months’ investigation by Federal officers, and the Government has issued a warning. Agencies in Vienna have been selling “permits” and corrupt influences have already been responsible for the admittance of a number of people from Europe on forged or stolen documents. These were sent to a ring operating in Vienna, which advertised them and sold them for amounts up to £BO.
The Minister of the Interior, Mr J. McEwen, points out that the only legal charge is £1 on issue.
