Tallow, Hemp and Fruit

The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London, dated April 21, 1939; Tallow: Market quiet, prices inclined easier. Present spot quotations are: —Mutton, fine 235, good 20s, fair 16s to 16s 6d; beef, fine none, good 17s, fair 15s Gd to 16s; mixed, good 17s, fair 15s 6d to 16s, gut 13s 6d to I 03; mutton, dark to dull, 14s 6d to 16s; beef, dark to dull 13s 6d to 15s 6d.

Hemp: Manila, market quiet; value Iv” grade, April-June shipment, £l6

Sisal: Market quiet and unchanged. New Zealand, nothing to report. Fruit: “Empire Star,” pears slightly forward. Market for apples and pears heavily supplied. Trade slow, prices weaker. The following are the jmarket values of sound conditioned fruit of the varieties mentioned, the

range of prices generally representing the difference between the several grades and/or counts. Variable conditioned fruit of similar varieties proportionately less in value.
