Flooding in East Coast Areas Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The anti-cyclone which has been advancing on to the South Island is losing intensity and depressions are now located east of the North Island and over the south-west Tasman. Winds: Moderate to strong southerly to south-easterly about and north of Cook Strait; otherwise light and variable at first, but tending north-easterly or northerly and gradually freshening. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough between Cape Campbell and East Cape and rather rough to rough elsewhere north of Cook Strait; slight in the South Island, but rising later in the south-west. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate southerly winds and moderate seas in the northern portion, freshening northerly winds in the southern portion, with slight but rising seas. Weather: Further rain in the central and eastern portions of the North Island and possibly extending as far south as Christchurch; some flooding likely in the Hawke’s Bay-East Cape area; otherwise mainly fair to fine, with rising temperatures, but clouding over later in the far south.
