Mr. H. H. Peck, of Melbourne, who has been attending the stud Southdown sheep sale at Fcilding, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Shannon, of Newbury Line.
Herr E. Bunze, of Beilin, who is to be attracted to the staff of the German
Counsul-General in Wellington, arrived at Wellington by tho Wanganclla on Wednesday. He is accompanied by his wife and their two children.
With their passages booked for an overseas tour, Cr. D. Collis, chairman oi the Ivairauga County Council, and Mrs. Collis, are leaving next Tuesday, unless there should have been further developments in the international situation. The county council yesterday wished them, in tho event of their getting away, a pleasant trip. Mr. Collis was made a presentation at the previous meeting of the council.
The 101st birthday of Captain J. Carbett-Scott, of Manukau Road, Epsom, falls to-day, Captain CorbettScott was born in Cornwall and came to Auckland as a young man of 20 in 1838. He is tho only survivor of a small band of Pukclioko settlers who in 1803 conducted a gallant defence at tho East Pukckohe Church against a greatly superior force of Maoris. Captain and Mrs Corbctt-Scott have been married for nearly (35 years and have lived in their present home for nearly 40 years. Captain Corbett-Scott, in spite of liis years, usually rises at 7 a.m. and frequently docs not retire until 10 p.iu.
Cabled advice lias been received of the death in Sydney of Mr William Charles Allnutt, of Roslyn, Dunedin, and later of Auckland. It is just six years ago since Mr and Mrs Allnutt celebrated 'their golden wedding. Mr Allnutt was well known in educational and bowling circles throughout the Dominion for many years. He was one of a band of \ ictorian-traincd teachers who arrived in 1882 to serve under tho Otago Education Board. His 41J years’ service was spent in two schools only, the Lawrence High School and tho Kaikorai School, Dunedin where he was headmaster for over 30 years. As a bowling enthusiast he won many prizes in annual tournaments and club contests, and in 1907 was elected the first Dominion Bowling Council president. He took an active interest in the affairs of the Methodist Csurch, and gave long service to the cause of Freemasonry.
