Late Afternoon Wedding At St. Patrick’s Church
RODGERS—ARTHUR A wedding of wide interest was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Broadway, on the late afternoon of Easter Saturday, when Edith, daughter of Mrs. Arthur, of “ Strathdoon,” Timaru, and the late Mr. Arthur, was married to Paul Dare, second son of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Rodgers, of Church Street, Palmerston North. Pink madonna lilies artistically arranged by the Sisters of Morey enhanced the beauty of the church and nuptial mass was celebrated by Monsignor J. F. MacManus. The bride, who was given away by Mr. K. Struthers, wore a graceful gown of magnolia satin, cut on classic lines, the bodice having a heart-shaped neckline and soft pleating at tho shoulders, the sleeves being long and tight-fitting. The skirt was pointed on to the bodice and was slightly trained. Hor only ornament was a lovely cross set with pearls and diamonds (a family heirloom), which hung from a fino gold chain. Her long tullo veil was held to her head with a half-circlet of orange blossom and she carried a sheaf of whito gladioli and maidenhair fern.
In attendance as bridesmaids were Judith Dossor, niece of the bridegroom, and Miss Babette Rodgers, sister of the bridgegroom. The small bridesmaid wore a dainty frock of blue organdie finished with tiny frills, with a belt of cherry velvet, the bodice having a Peter Pan collar and short puff sleeves. In her hair she wore a wreath of forget-me-nots and rosebuds to match her sash, her posy being of blue delphiniums and rosebuds, and she alse wore blue socks and shoes. Miss Rodgers was picturesque in a crinoline frock of pale blue silk taffeta, flowered with rosebuds, the skirt lopped above the stiffened net frills finishing the underskirt and caught with cherry oows, tho tightfitting bodice having chorry velvet shoulder straps and Bertha cape caught with a cherry bow. She wore a topknot of forget-me-nots centred with a rosebud, also blue shoes, and carried a posy of cherry rosebuds. Mr. Mark Rodgers supported his brother as best man.
Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Rodgers later entertained the guests at their residence, Church Street, where the reception rooms were beautifully decorated with tawny and rust shaded dahlias and maidenhair fern. Mrs. Rodgers wore a hostess gown of wallflower lace, with a narrow belt caught with a diamante buckle. She wore a coronet of velvet and carried a bouquet of carnations and roses to tone.
Among those present were Miss Nelle Scanlan (London), aunt of the bridegroom, who wore black lace with an ermine cape and evening toque of net and black velvet finished with roses; Mrs. R. Dossor (Wellington), sister of tho bridegroom, in Marina green lace with velvet coronet to tone; Mrs. J. Reynolds, also a sister, in gold satin and gold evening plait; Mrs. T. M. N. Rodgers, cream and clover printed silk; Miss Rena Penman, green windswept taffeta.
Tho toast to “The happy couple” was proposed by Mr. K. Struthers and enthusiastically honoured, and the bride cut the cream and gold wedding cake with due ceremony. When Mr. and Mrs. Rodgers left later by car for a trip to tho East Coast the bride appeared for travelling in a swing coat of air force blue over a silk frock in matching shade finished with gold, a smart felt hat to tone with veil* trimming, and navy shoes and accessories.
