Rumania Lines Up With Britain
Albanian Invasion Brings Change of Outlook BALKAN ENTENTE POSSIBLE (Independent Cable Service.) United Press Association.—Bv Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Tuesday, 11.35 p.m. LONDON, April 11. It is understood that the Rumanian Minister in London informed the British Foreign Secretary, Viscount Halifax, that Rumania is willing to join a pact similar to that with Poland. King Carol will confer with his [Ministers to-day. Rumania is reported to be making an effort to persuade Bulgaria to join a Balkan entente, and even offering to cede Dobrnja territory which Rumania won in the Balkan war of 1913. Hitherto Rumania has declared she would not cede a foot of this territory, a dispute over which kept Bulgaria out of a Balkan entente, but the Italian invasion of Albania has caused a change of outlook in both Rumania and Bulgaria. RUMANIA AND TURKEY IN HARMONY ANKARA, April 10. The Turkish Cabinet met to-day. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, M. Saradcoglu, stated that harmony existed in the relations between Rumania and Turkey. TURKEY NOT AFRAID HAS POWERFUL ARMY Received Wednesday, 12.45 a.m. ANKARA (Turkey), April 11. The Chamber of Deputies unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the Government. The Prime Minister, Bey Saydan, declared: “We have a powerful army capable of warding off danger of aggression.” INTEGRITY OP GREECE ABSOLUTELY ASSURED ATHENS, April 10. Sir Sydney Waterlow, British Minister to Greece, interviewed the Prime Minister, General Mctaxas, and General Metaxas later made the statement that Greece’s integrity was absolutely assured.
The Government is ceaselessly on the watch to preserve the country’s security and honour. London reports that the diplomatic correspondent of The Times says it is clear Britain would regard as an unfriendly act anv move by Italy or Germany against Turkey or Greece. Such a warning will probably be given on April 13, but whether in specific terms or as a formal unilateral assurance depends on previous diplomatic exchanges. Signor Mussolini’s contravention of the Anglo-Italian Agreement and of his personal assurances to Mr. Chamberlain has aroused very strong feeling among members of Cabinet.
