Manawatu Central Badminton Club

THE YEAR REVIEWED The following annual report was presented at tho annual general meeting of the Manawatu Central Badminton Club held last night:— “During the 1938 season the membership of 38 showed a decrease of seven over the previous year. The statement of accounts shows a credit balance of £6 10s 4d and a profit of £l2 8s 5d on the year’s working. A very satisfactory state of affairs. “The ultimate winners of tho various club championships were: Men’s singles, A grade, C. Sherrin; women’s singles, A grade, Miss P. Rodden; men’s singles, B grade, A. Seivers; women’s singles, B grade, Miss H. Skinner. Congratulations are extended to these successful 1938 champions, also to Mr. C. Sheerin, who reached the finals of the North Island men’s singles championships, held at Wanganui, and for also reaching the last eight in the New Zealand men’s singles championships held in Hamilton. “Manawatu Central furnished five out of the eight representatives in the annual inter-provincial tourney in August. Australian Team’s Visit “In the Australia v. Manawatu match, Manawatu Central were represented by four out of the six in the team, namely, Misses P. Rodden and N. Orchard, and in the men’s section by R. Duncalf and C. Sherrin. The outstanding game in this match was the excellent performance of C. Sherrin in his singles match against Bert Tomkins, of Australia.

“During the year the A team went through the season without a loss and the B team held its own on most occasions.

“Cups were donated by Miss P. Rodden, Messrs. D. Mcßae and R. Hill, for which they are heartily thanked. Donations were also received from P. Cope, and supper for tho opening night from the president, Mr. Bruce Davidson. The committee consider the season to have been a very satisfactory one and wish all members a pleasant season in 1939. The thanks of the club aro due to the secretary, Mr. W. R. J. Jensen, for his untiring work for the club, the present position of the club being largely due to his efforts.”
