VITAL STATISTICS FOR PALMERSTON NORTH Vital statistics supplied by tho Regis trar of Births, Deaths and Marriages at Palmerston North (Mr. H. B. Reid) for tho quarter just ended show that tho rate of births (which in the first quarter of last year showed a considerable increase over those of the corresponding quarter a year before) is being well maintained. The number of deaths for tho quarter is greater than for the corresponding period of last year and the figures for marriage notices issued remains steady. The following are the figures for the two quarterly periods:— January-March, 1939 1938 Births 158 J 59 Deaths 77 64 Marriage notices issued 9.1 92 Marriages by Registrar 15 24 The figures for the mouth of March, with those for the same month a year ago in parentheses are as follow: Births, 49 (53); deaths, 30 (26); marriage notices issued, 41 (27); marriages by registrar, 4 (7).
