Oroua Rugby Sub-Union

ANNUAL MEETING HELD The annual meeting of the Oroua Rugby Football Sub-Union was hold at Kimbolton on Saturday evening, Mr. J. Watt presiding. There were also present Messrs. C. Spence, D. McKenzie, N. Guylee, A. Shannon, R. do Roles, H. Harris and J. Gwanc. Prior to the taking of tho business the chairman referred to the passing of Mr. F. Thompson, of Rangiwahia, and those present stood in silence as a mark of respect and sympathy. Mr. Watt congratulated players on a successful season and expressed appreciation of the untiring efforts of the delegates, whose good work had contributed towards the success of the season. The sub-union desired also to record its appreciation of the w kof Mr. Gwane, the representative team manager, and to congratulate him on the capable manner he had handled the men whilst on tour. Mr. Watt went on to make special reference to the splendid work done by the ladies of the district and referred to the efforts of the referees, whose assistance had been most valuable. He was happy to conclude with the statement that the union had concluded its year with a small credit balance.

The report and balance-sheet were adopted and the following officers elected: Patron, Mr. J. Watt; president, Mr. A. Shannon; vice-presidents, Messrs. H. Harris, H. Fankliauser, G. Cowan and N. Guylee; secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. Weir.

Enthusiastic reference was made to Mr. J. Watt, who had been chairman of the sub-union for a number of years. He has been a very Keen and most ardent supporter of the union and followed with the closest interest the fortunes of the teams representing it. Mr. Shannon, his successor, whose name is well known in Rugby circles, has also been a member of the sub-union for a number of years. It was decided to open the season’s activities on April 29 for tho seniors and on May 6 for the juniors. A challenge is to be lodged for the Bebbington Shield.
