Manchester Street School
MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE The committee of the Manchester Street School, Feilding, met on Monday ovening, Mr. G. J. Fitzpatrick (chairman) presiding. There w T ere also present Messrs. J. Campbell, F. J. Gaze (headmaster), P. Maegaard, Z. McLeod, R. Burne, E. R. Mathews, and Mesdamcs P. G. Guy and S. McDowall. The headmaster’s report given below was the only business dealt with: In connection with the milk-in-school scheme milk had been arriving regularly for the past fortnignt. Arrangements were in hand for the annual fancy dress ball in May. The school savings bank was being well supported by the children. Arrangements had been made through the courtesy of Mr. C. H. Tate, town clerk, for forms 1 and 2 to visit the council chambers, where matters of procedure and the conduct of local body meetings would be explained. Arrangements had been made for the boys to participate in the Manawatu Rugby Union primary schools’ competition this season. Life-saving examinations conducted by Mr. Stevenson, of the Manawatu centre, had resulted in the issue of 22 elementary life-saving certificates. Distance swimming certificates had been awarued as follows: Merit for 800 yards, 14 successes; 14 gained proficiency for 220 yards; 38 learners for 50 yards; 25 beginners for 25 yards; also 20 others secured local school certificates for having learned to swim across the baths this season.
