British Music Society Groups Combine

PROGRAMME FOR STRINGS AND FLuhO Members of the string and piano groups of tho Palmerston North branch of the British Music Society combined very happily last evening in presenting their first programme of the year. Miss D. Southey-Baker, convener of the string group, announced that it had been decided to amalgamate these two groups and introduced Miss C. Vickery as tho new convener of the piano group. The Theosophical Hall presented a charmiDg appearance with bowls of belladonna lilies on tall stands and dahlias, gladioli, spindleberry and agapanthus artistically arranged by Mrs. Barnicoat.

At the conclusion of the programme, Dr. F. H. McDowell (president) voiced the appreciation of tho audience, and supper was served under the direction of Mrs. Quartley.

Following was the programme: Orchestral, “Suite" (Purcell), string group, comprising Misses D. SoutheyBaker, F. Howley, J. Findlay, B. Bartlett and S. Quartley (violins), Miss J. Paton (’cello), Mr. L. Findlay (viola) and at the piano Miss C. Bartlett; pianoforte solo, “Nocturne in G Minor" (Chopin), Mrs. H. D. Howley; First Movement Rheinberger Quartette, Mrs. J. Fisher (violin), Miss J. Paton (’cello), Mr. L. Findlay (viola), Miss E. Eyre (piano); pianoforte solo, “Fantasia iu C Minor" (Mozart), Miss Lola Buick; violin solo, “Romance" (Svensen), Mrs. Fisher; pianoforte, “To a Wild Rose" (McDowell), “Waltz" (Brahms), “Old Trysting Place," Mr. E. Bennett; Lackncr trio, Miss Baker (violin), Mr. Findlay (viola), Miss Eyre (piano); pianoforte solo, “Devotion" (Sehumann-Liszt) and “Prelude in C Minor" (chop in), Mr. M. Pierard; ’cello solo, “Guitar," Miss J. Paton; pianoforte solo,

“ Wauldesraucheti." (Liszt), encore; “The Juggler" (Toch), Miss Frances Revere; pianoforte solos, “Petites Litannes de Jesus," “Berceuse de la Poupee’’ ((jrovely), Miss Cynthia Vickery; “Carissiraa" (Elgar); “Gavotte" (Mozart), string group. Tho accompanists were Mrs. I. Rickard and Miss E. Eyre.
