From Our Own Correspondent. Tennis Dance A dance conducted by the Tennis Club was held last Wednesday evening ana proved to be an outstanding success, There were many visitors from neighbour ing districts and all joinea heartily in the evening's fun of card playing and dancing The hall was decorated with multi-colour-ed streamers, and bowls ot' flowers were arranged on the stage. Following supper, Mr I. Old (club captain), who carried out the duties of M.C., thanked all who had helped to make the evening such a success. The winners or the euenre tournamene were Airs E. Cowdrey and Air R. Cockburn 3, Mrs F. Cowdrey and Mr R» Humphrey 2. Novelty dances were won by Airs K. Anderson and Air K. Haywood (Mone Carlo), and Mrs F. Cowdrey and Air J. Maefarlane (Gay Gordons). The cake competition was won by Air G. Buchanan (Haloombe). Among those present were Alesdames Rosser, wearing a wine coloured frock; W. Humphrev, A. Marshall, black lace; F. Cowdrey, floral georgette; J. Alacfarlane, purple satin; H. Jones, floral crepe; K. Anderson, silver lame; C. Pollard, floral satin; M. Cockburn black; J. satin; B. Wilcock, blue satin. Personal. Miss Weaver, of the nursing staff of the Hawera Public Hospital, has been spending her annual leave as the guest of Mrs T. Jefferies, ”Burford,” and Airs K. Anderson, “Wyvern.” Mrs Welch and small son, Eastbourne, are the guests of the former's mother, Airs A. Alar shall. Garden Fete. Although the weather was threatening and cold last Saturday afternoon, there was a splendid attendance at the garden fete, conducted by the members of the Anglican Church, and held at Aliss Clere’s home, “Ormesby,” Mawara Road. There were stalls, games and competitions, which fully occupied the time of patrohs. The produce and jumble stall, in charge of Alesdames Mills and Aliles, did brisk business, as did also the cake and sweets stall in charge of Alesdames Parsons and Hamilton. Mrs A. Alarshall was in charge "of the clock golf, which was won by Airs Harvey, and Messrs Al. Leet and R. Hamilton (equal). The ladder croquet was won by Mr W. Harvey. Alesdames Jefferies and Craine, and Alisses Jefferies and Craine successfully ran the afternoon tea room. Winners of the various competitions were as follow; Dinner. Mr Lauren son (Feilding); cake, Air S. Williams (Halcombe); breakfast tray, Mrs D. Willis (Marton); collection of farm products. Mrs L. Sandbrook (Makino). Members are grateful for the way the the feto was patronised, especially to Aliss Clerc for the use of her garden and home. It is expected that the funds will benefit to the extent of £23 from this effort.
