Bathing Suits of 28 Years Ago
Two hundred feminine bathing suits of the vintage of 1911 had to be made to order for a beach scene in ItKO Radio’s “The Story of Vernon aud Irene Castle” in which Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers arc starred. A canvass of Hollywood and of nearby California beaches, failed to unearth even one bathing suit with knee length bloomers and a full over-skirt, such as was the height of fashion in that era. In addition, 200 pairs of cotton. stockings had to be ordered direct from a stocking factory for wear with llie old fashioned bathing suits. In the new' picture, Miss Rogers au I Astaire play the role of Mr aud Mr* Castle, famous dance team of the period just prior to the World War. For “If I Were King,” Paramount's new Frank Lloyd production starring Ronald Colman as Francois Villon, 75 seamstresses used 1300 yards of rich fabrics in fashioning 15th century court gowns for feminine principals, including Frances Dee and Heather Thatcher.
