Levin’s First Fifty Years
CELEBRATING THE JUBILEE. From Our Own Corresxxmdent LEVIN, March 29. When the Wcllington-Manawatu railway came through this district a little over 50 years ago, the station was named Levin after the late Mr. W. H. Levin, who was a director of the company which promoted the line, and th\s was the origin of the town’s name. The public school was built within a year of the first sale of sections in the township, and was opened on February 24th, 1890. Thus the Dominion’s Centennial year coincides with Levin’s Jubilee year. At the request of the Levin District High School Committee and Home and School Association, the mayor (Mr. P. \V. Goldsmith), is convening a preliminarv meeting to consider Jubilee matters, and this is to be held in the Borough Chambers on Tuesday next.
