Correspondence
MOTOR-CYCLE SPEEDS CRITICISED (To the Editor.) Sir, —In your issue of the loth inst.; a report appeared of the Kairanga County Council meeting, at which consideration was to be given to a letter received from the Commissioner of Transport, wherein it was stated that at tho next quarterly meeting of the Road Safety Council, a proposal would be considered as to whether it was in the interests of road safety to impose restrictions on the use of motor-cycles. The council was inivt'ed to forward any comment on the proposal. Councillor J. Smith stated that if he had his way no motor-cycles would be registered; they would be barred from the country; and that they were the most dangerous vehicle you could meet on the road. Tho chairman (Cr. D. Collis) stated that if Cr. Smith were to move a resolution it would receive plenty of support. Now, it appears to me, Mr. Editor, that these councillors were merely “blowing off hot air,” and did not realise what they were saying. Either that, or they have no respect for human life, for this same council provides its road foreman with a motorcycle to carry out his duties. It would, therefore, I think in the face of this fact, be as well for these councillors to withdraw their statements —or put into practice what they preach. I am, ec., P. T. ROBINSON, Hon, Secretary, Manawatu-Orion Motor-cycle Club.
