SALE OF ’PLANES TO FRANCE United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Friday, 7.30 p.m. WASHINGTON, Peb. 17. According to testimony offered by Mr. Morgenthau, Secretary to the Treasury, before the Senate Military Committee, President Roosevelt personally overrodo the Chief of Staff, General Craig, and permitted the French to purchase 100 American bombing ’planes. General Craig objected, contending such a purchase might interfere with the United States Army’s procurement of the necessary ’planes iu order to meet requirements under the new defence programme.
