No Support For Petone Centennial Memorial

FROM KIWITEA COUNTY COUNCIL A decision was reached by the Kiwi tea County Council at its meeting on Wednesday not to support the Wellington Provincial Centennial Memorial to bo erected at Petone. The subject was mentioned in a letter received from the Feilding Borough Council advising the decisions reached by tho Provincial “ Centennial Committee as to the memorial at Petone and stating that local bodies in Zone E (Feilding and Marton area) would be expected to find £207 towards the cost. Of this total the Kiwitea County Council was expected to contribute £l6. After considering the matter the council resolved that it was not in favour of contributing to the Petone memorial. Members of the council spoke in favour of the Mt. Stewart pioneers’ memorial.
