Dr. Douglas W. Guthrie, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Dotiglas Guthrie, of Wellington, and formerly of Auckland, has gamed the degree of F.R.C.S., London.

Mr. W. W. Samson, registrar of the Supreme Court and sheriff in Wellington, and registrar of the Court of Appeal, is to retire shortly. Mr. Samson will relinquish his duties about the end of June.

Mr. W. Low Black, Batt Street, Palmerston North, will attend the conference of Federated Justices of the Peace at Timaru on March 15 and 16, as representative of the Justices Association of Manawatu and district.

Dr. Julius Stone, who has been appointed to the chair of law at Auckland University College, is expected to arrive London on March 9. Professor Stone at Auckland on March 9. Professor Stone will take up his duties on March 13.

Mr. F. D. Young, a member of the Auckland staff of tho Commercial Bank of Australia, has received notice of his appointment a 3 manager of tbo Hastings branch of the bank. Mr. and Mrs. Young will leave for Hawke’s Bay on Monday.

From 14 applicants, including a number resident overseas, Mr. Richard Horton Toy, a graduate of the School of Architecture, Auckland University College, has been appointed lecturer and studio instructor in architecture at the school, says a Press Association message.

Mr. H. I. Thodey, inspector for New Zealand for tho Bank of Australasia, will retire on April 10 after 44 years’ service with tho Bank in Australia and New Zealand. Ho will be succeded by Mr. E. A. Cameron, who has been manager of the Auckland branch since 1936. Mr. R. G. Bennett, accountant at the Auckland branch, will succeed Mr. Cameron as manager.—Press Association.

Rev. Y. C. Venimore, M.A., formerly curate at St. Mark's Church t Wellington, returned by the Wanganella, having journeyed from England to Sydney by the Orient liner Orcades, upon which ship he acted as chaplain. He spent the past two years in England as assistant at St. Paul’s Church, Thornton Heath, Surrey. Mr. Venimore has returned to Zealand to take up an appointment as vicar of St. Peter’s Church, Gonville, Wanganui, where he will bo instituted on Tuesday evening, in succession to Rev. C. W. Soloman, who recently retired. Mr. Venimore was at one time on the staff of All Saints’, Palmerston North.
