From Our Own Correspondent. Twenty-first Birthday Party Mr and Mrs A. Funston entertained a number of friends at their home recently, the occasion being the celebration of the coming of age of their second daughter, Jean, who made a charming hostess and was the recipient of many gifts. Those present included Mr and Mrs A. Funston, the Misses A. J. and D. Funston, H. Hocken, Smith, M. Northcott, J. Smith, Messrs R. Funston, N. and W. Hocken. R. Wealleans, B. Edmundson and N. Williams. Tennis. The tennis season is now in full swing and practises held twice a week are well patronised. In a combined doubles tournament held recently for the club’s silver buttons, some excellent tennis was witnessed. Miss V. Woodman and Mr C. Wilson emerged the winners, with Miss H. Hocken and Mr A. O. Simpson as run-ners-up. Competition for the Gray Cup, played on the Aratika courts, is very keen. The present holders are Miss H. Hocken and Mr J. Humphreys, who defeated Mrs W. Caldwell and Mr R. Wealleans, who had been the holders for some considerable time. At a meeting held on Monday evening to discuss the best means of raising funds for court repairs, it was decided to hold a dance, the function to be held in March. Supper arrangements are in the hands of the ladies’ committee, and a professional oorchestra will be in attendance. Details are to be advertised at a later date. Personal. Mrs Alderson, of To Kuitl, is staying with her daughter, Mrs J. W. Whittaker, Aratika. Mr D. Thurston has returned to Wellington Training College. Mr G. Me Vicar left recently for Christchurch, where he will represent the Feilding Methodist Church at the annual Methodist conference. Mrs A. G. Jefferies has returned home from a holiday spent at the Foxton beach, where she was the guest of Mrs J. Linklater. Mrs C. Elliott and family have returned to their home, Reid’s Line, after a fortnight’s holiday spent at Otaki as the guests of Mr and Mrs Frank Elliott.
