From Our Own Corresr ondent The monthly meeting of the school committee was held on Monday, there being present Messrs K. Vile (chairman), H. Ellery, J. Capstick and R. Bartlett. It was decided to make application to the Education Board for swimming grant to cover cost of transport. It was decided to purchase timber to construct work benches in the school. Mr Ellery reported that a gift of firewood had been made to the school by Mr F. O. Bailey. A letter of thanks is to be sent to the donor. It was decided to hold the school picnic at Manawatu Heads at the end of the month. The sports programme is to be arranged by the head teacher. It was also decided to present a gift book to the lower classes. A further meeting is to be held to finalise the matter. The head teacher rei"i ted that the roll number was lower than last year. Bessons in swimming and hrst aid and life-saving, etc., were being given. The following had qualified for their learners’ certificate (50 yards); Kutu Walker, Harry Palmer, Jill Bartlett, Jack Bartlett, Dick Walker, it was reported that 65 per cent, of the pupils could now swim.
