College Street School
MEETING OF COMMITTEE Mr. H. Christmas presided at the meeting of the College Street School Committee last evening in tho absence of the chairman, Mr. H. G. Mills. Others present were Messrs. C. C. Atkin, E. L. Cruickshank, L. N. Paddy, E. Persson, E A. Shacklcton and W. R. Taylor.
The headmaster, Mr. L. J. Plank, reported that when the school re-opened on February 1, 45 pupils had been admitted. The roll at present was 515, as compared with 511 last year. Misses C. L. Curry aud J. 11. Ferguson and Messrs. L. li. Rickard and J. L. C. Davey replaced Misses A. J. E. Thompson and T. M. Simpson and Mr. D. M. D. Taylor on the staff. Mr. Davey was acting as a supernumerary teacher. The amended curriculum for February was being followed, and as well as much swimming and life-saving as was possible considering tho limited time at their disposal at the Municipal Baths. They were grateful for their hour and a-half daily, and 44 children had learned to swim the width of the bath this sea-
son. It was proposed to hold a swimming day on Tuesday afternoon and all who were interested were inviteu xo attend.
It was decided to ask the City Council to have white lines painted at the corner of College Street and Fitzherbert Avenue to provide a suitable crossing for the school children.
It was decided to hold the annual picnic on a Friday, preferably February 24,
Arrangements were made for a set of reference books to be purchased, and also an arts and crafts publication.
