Obituary
MR. HAPE IWIKAU, OF ONEPUHI
A well-known Maori figure in the person of Mr. Hape Iwikau passed away at Onepuhi on Tuesday last. The deceased was a son of the late Mr. Wetina Iwikau, a well-known personage of the Tuwharetoa Tribe, and of Mrs. Pipi Iwikau, of the Waeawe Tribe. Always of a cheerful disposition, the deceased had many friends among his people ana the pakeha and was interested in all classes of sport. His brother, Mr. Toro Iwikau, died some four years ago and another brother, Mr. Dick Iwikau, survives to carry on the family traditions, while Mrs. Gotty, of Onepuhi, is a sister. The late Mr. Iwikau had not been in the best of health for some time ana had been receiving treatment in hospital. However the trouble did not yield to the treatment and he returned to his home to pass away, to the sorrow of all. The funeral took place on Friday last to the Tokorangi Maori cemetery, being attended by large numbers of both Maori and pakeha friends. Rev. Father Venning, of Otaki, officiated at the services.
