GENERAL NOTES
Law Offices Reopen Woodville law offices reopened yesterday morning after the annual vacation of three weeks. Foresters’ Cards There was again a large attendance at the Foresters’ Lodge weekly card tournament last week. Mr. J. Nicholas won the first prizo with games, while tho remaining trophies were divided between Messrs D. Kenyon and T. G. Jamieson, who scored 9 games each. Renovating the Post Office In continuation of tho recent renovations at the Woodville Post Office the surface has been stripped off the floor and steps of the entrance porch. At present the intention Is that this space will be improved with pink-tinted tiles. The porch is at present in a rough state and a notice cautions customers ito walk warily. Anniversary Day Holiday The Wellington Province Anniversary Day will be observed by Woodville shopkeepers as a close holiday next Monday for the first time on record. Although Woodville is not territorially within tho Wellington Province, the position is governed by the fact that working conditions are governed now by awards covering industrial districts. Much east coast country is included in the Wellington industrial district and thus, Anniversary Day, or another day, must be observed as a holiday. Repairs to Water Supply An inspection of the progress being made with the repairs at the intake of the borough water supply was made on Saturday by Mr. J. R. Hughes, engineer to the Palmerston North City Council. About half the face of the dam spillway has been resurfaced and the unrepaired half tells a vivid story of the corrosion of concrete through the years by the ' mountain waters of the Mangapapa Stream. Large hollows have been ground out in the concrete face and over the roughness the water foams in a cascade.
