Safety on Australian Roads
APPEAL TO MOTORISTS SYDNEY, Jan. 6. “Road sense is common sense,” says the Road Safety Council of New South Wales, in a statement appealing to motorists to exercise caution | “Let constant attention and aware- ' ness be your code,” the statement continues. “Never allow your attention to be distracted from your driving. “The essence of road sense is to anticipate the follies of others. Frequent causes of accidents arc children running on to the roadways, playing games on the roadways, stealing rides |on carts, and falling or jumping from moving vehicles. Pedestrians, too, cause numerous accidents by stepping off footpaths without looking, hesitating in traffic, crossing from behind or in front of vehicles without looking. Pedal cyclists cause accidents by turning I without signalling, holding on to vchj icles, riding more than two abreast and 'overtaking on the wrong side.”
