South Africa All Out For 390 Runs
JOHANNESBURG, Dec. 27. The South African batsmen in the first innings of the Test match against the M.C.C. made 390 runs—32 runs short of the M.C.C. first-innings total. In their second innings the M.C.C. had lost one wicket for 103 at stumps. The South African Mitchell batted for 240 minutes. He was a model of sound defence. Viljoen and Dalton, after a cautious start, became well set and added 70 in an hour. Viljoen had been batting for 162 minutes when he played a ball into his wicket. Dalton’s century occupied 201 minutes. Langton was unconquered after 96 minutes. He hit two sixers. The English batsman Edrich again failed to master his Test complex and was caught in the slips after taking 50 minutes to score ten. Paynter and Gibb played steadily until stumps.
