Finish of the 1938 Manawatu Cup

As they flashed past the judge at the finish of the 193 S Manawatu Cup. Wild Chase, carrying the famous Clifford colours and ridden by A. G. Parsons, won by a length and a-quarter. Next is the Trentham filly Peerless. The third horse, on the outer, is Argentic, carrying the No. 2 saddle-cloth, and The Bigot, next the rails, was fourth. Then come Play On (6), and Happy Landing, obscured, but jockey can be seen. Hunting Cat, with the light colours, is wide out, and Brazen King, stripes, is bowling along on the fence. The last horse in the picture, Sicgmund, has the white bridle. The sectional times for the race were: First halfmile, 51 2-5; first seven furlongs, 1.31; first m ile, 1.44; nine furlongs, 1.56 ; last four furlongs, 51; last three, 39secs. The mile and a-half took them 2.35, which was remarkable time in the going.
