Good Prices for Sheep at Addington
CATTLE DROP SLIGHTLY ON PREVIOUS HIGH RATES Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. A larger entry particularly of fat cattle was offered at the weekly stock sale at Addington to-day. Fat cattle showed a fall of 30s a head on the exceptionally high rates of last week. The fat sheep entry was slightly smaller. Good shorn wethers showed a rise o* 2s and good woolly ewes Is to Is 6c. The store sheep yarding was of about 2000. The entry of ewes and lambs was not particularly attractive and did not sell so well, making to I3s Id, poor pens 6s to 7s 6d, with medium ewes and lambs 9s to 12s 6d. For hoggets there was another good sale, and values were fully up to last week’s. A pen of nicely woolled hoggets made to 14s 4d, and a line of ewe hoggets 17s lOd. .Shorn hoggets again failed to attract compe tition and sold from 5s to 7s.
The fat sheep entry was slightly smaller than that of last week, comprising about 4250. The quality generally was well up to the standard of recent sales. There was a keen demand for good quality sheep, shorn wethers advancing 2s, but woollies showed little advance on last week. Ewes were up Is 6d a head for all classes. Extra prime wethers made to 36s Id, prime heavy 31s to 33s 6d, medium 26s 6d to 30s, light to 21s. Extra prime shorn wethers brought to 28s Id, medium to heavy 24s to'26s. Extra prime ewes made to 26s Id, prime heavy 23s to 24s 6d, medium 18s to 225, light to ls>». The quality of spring lambs was better than usual and there was a keen sale. Prime heavy lambs made to 12 a lb., and a fraction more for medium weights. The fat cattle entry of 475 included more good quality sorts than usual. The big increase in the entry is reflected by the lower scale of values. On the average the best light beef was easier to 255, heavier sorts to 30s, and heifers and cows 30s to 355. Nevertheless the sale was excellent.
Best beef made about 47s 6d, heavier quality to 45s a 1001 b. Best heifers also made about this rate and cows to 425. Extra prime steers brought to £25 7s 6d, prime heavy £l6 15s to £l9 ss, medium £ls jLOs to £l7, light to £ll 15s. Extra prime heifers made to £l6 7s 6d, prime heifers £l2 to £l4, mect’um £lO to £ll 10s, light to £9 10s; extra prime cows to £l7 2s 6d, prime £lO 15s to £l3 ss. medium £8 to £lO, light to £7 10s. Fat pigs: The porker entry was again on the small side. The large proportior was hard and unfinished sorts. Tin sale from the start was about 2s be-ttt* than last week. Over the last race a. further 2s to 3s was obtained. Choppers were in good supply, but notwithstanding this the sale was fully on a par with last week’s. Baconcrs were small in number, the market improving Is to 2s all round. Choppers made 53s 6d to £5 16s, porkers 44s 6d to £3 9s 6d (average prjee per lb. 7|d to 84d), baconers £3 10s 6d to £5 17s 6d (average price per lb. 7£d to 7|d).
