South American Fascists Receive Stern Sentences
PUNISHMENT FOR PARTICIPATING IN RECENT UPRISINGS United Press Association.—By Electrlo Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Thursday, 1.20 a.m. SANTIAGO (Chile), October 5. As a result of the uprising on September 5 Deputy Korge von Maree, leader of 300,000 Chilean Nazis, was sentenced to death, and General Carlos Ibanez, Presidential candidate, was exiled for ten years. Other prominent persons were exiled for life or imprisoned for ten years. At Rio de Janeiro 119 persons who participated in the Fascist revolt of May 11 were sentenced to up to eight years' imprisonment. ALLEGED ITALIAN CAMPAIGN OF TERROR IN U.S.A. AMERICAN ITALIANS FORCED TO RECOGNISE MUSSOLINI WASHINGTON, October 5. After hearing allegations that Italian secret police aided the Italian consuls in conducting a campaign of terror within the United States to force Italian Americans to swear allegiance to Mussolini the Dies Committee announcecf it is seeking Department of Justice action. Signor Girolamo Valenti, chairman of the Italian Anti-Fascist Committee, named four police agents in the United States and five consul-generals assisting them. He said Italian Americans were called on in their homes and threatened. Thousands of dollars were .‘-ecurcd in exchange for printed greetings and messages from Mussolini.
