LIVELY WHATAWHATA MEETING HAMILTON, Oct. 3. The largest crowd ever seen in the Whatawhata Hall assembled this evening when the Minister of Agriculture, the Hou. W. Lee Martin, spoke in furtherance of his campaign. A large section of Labour supporters from Frankton and Horotiu was present and was vociferous in applause. A considerable section of the 300 in the hall, however, was obviously opposed to the speaker, w r hose address was frequently punctuated by alternate cheers and counter-cheers for Messrs. Savage, Coates and Hamilton. The Minister spoke for two hours, but before questions were invited the chairman, Mr J. T. Kempthorne, adopted the unusual course of asking for a motion. A motion of thanks to the speaker und confidence in the Government was proposed. An amendment of thanks to the speaker and of no conj fidence in the Government was submitted. Tho chairman, however, did not put I the amendment, but declared the moj tion carried. He was counted out amid | uproar. A constable was engaged throughout in warning interjectora.
