Work of Toc H Movement in Dominion
COMMENT AT HALF-YEARLY MEETING p«r Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 6. Mention of the work being done in all New Zealand ports by Toe K in keeping in touch with men on ships in New Zealand wafers thus helping dispel the loneliness of many strangers to this country was mado by tho Auckland delegates to the half-yearly meeting of tho Dominion executive of the Toe H. Mr. G-ordon Turvey, deputy of the administrator of Toe II in New Zealand, outlined the progress made during the past year. The meeting expressed its appreciation of the work he had done and tho regret at his impending departure owing to lack of funds. Mr. Turvey will take up similar work on the staff of Toe H in Tasmania as from October. The formation of a new, flourishing group at To Awamutu was reported. Groups had also been started at Grcyznouth and Ashburton. Mr» James Vogel spoke on tho Boy ticout jamboree to be held at Welling ton at Christmas, 1939, and tho hope was expressed that Toe H members would render assistance. Rev. Owen Williams said social surveys should bo undertaken by Toe H an a means of directing its service more usefully. He particularly stressed Maori problems. Miss Helen Benbow, Registrar from London, of the Toe H League of Women Helpers, submitted a report on her six months’ work in New Zealand with the women *a movement. |
