New Zealand Women Golfers in Australia
VALUABLE EXPERIENCE GAINED Per Presa Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 7. Tne opinion that the standard of wdlnen’s golf in Australia at present was very high and there were in the Commonwealth a number of most promising players was expressed by Mrs Guy Williams, captain-manager of the New Zealand women’s team which was recently over there. Mrs Williams returned to-day by the Maunganui accompanied by Misses Hornabrook, Buchanan and Collins, having remain- • ed behind in Sydney after the playing members had returned to New ' Zealand. While gratified at the New Zealand i team having retained the Tasman r Cup, it was disappointing, said Mrs , Williams, that they did not do better , in the open championships. It was , rather difficult to become accustom- , *d to the different light on the Aus- > tralain courses, and it appeared as though New Zealand teams required a little longer than a w'eek to accustom themselves to the new conditions and recover from the crossing before commencing competition play. She • felt that the experience gained by the members of the New Zealand team and the players who accompanied l it had been most valuable and would l be reflected in their play. The trip * had been most successful in every n way, and she could not speak toe r highly of the splendid hospitality ex tended to them by their Australiar * hosts. In this respect they ow-ed s ■ . debt of gratitude to Miss U. Clift, pre .f sident of the New South Wales Lad '* ics’ Golf Union.
