Boxing Championships
TEAM TO REPRESENT MANAWATU The team to represent the Manawatu Boxing Association at the national championships, to be held in Gisborne next week, when Mr. G. Watehorn, of Palmerston North, will be one of the referees, has been selected as follows:—• 11.l 1 . Peterson (middleweight), G. Hastings (flyweight), H. Parsons (featherweight), D. Coughlin (lightweight), and E. Fell (hcavywei. ). Mr. G. Hastingi will accompany the team as manage) und Mr. L. Dovrnt as trainer. Mr. E. R.. Wimsett (president) will jo* present the Manawatu Boxing Association at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Association. Negotiations aro ,in progress by the Manawatu Boxing Association for a professional lightweight contest between J. Collins, of Palmerston North, and P. Kelly, ou September 24 at tfiis centre. Kelly’s reply is now being awaited and, should the match eventuate, it will be the first appearance in professional ranks by Collins, who represented New Zealand at the Empire Gaines in Sydney.
