Hitler as “Liberator of Austria”
UNRESTRAINED ENTHUSIASM NUREMBERG, Sept. 5. Herr Hitler arrived at 11 a.m. accompanied by Dr. Goebbels and other party Leaders. Herr Hitler alighted at the {old-draped station, inspected the bodyguard, and then drove to his hotel along I route lined with cheering thousands. The station precincts were lined with Storm Troopers with their arms interlocked to restrain the crowds, whom a second line of troops faced. Cold, wet weather failed to damp the Nazi’s enthusiasm.
Herr Hitler was welcomed by the Mayor as the creator of Greater Germany and the liberator of Austria. Herr Hitler responded. “Again,” he said, “the Nazis, this time of greater Germany, meet to gather new strength (or the tasks of the coming year. We are happy that our Austrian brothers ire with us.” It was announced that the regalia oi the Holy Koman Empire would be transferred from Vienna to Nuremberg.
