Insurance Workers’ Dispute
NO AGREEMENT REACHED WELLINGTON, Last Night. No agreement was reached after the first day’s hearing in Conciliation Council at Wellington to-day of tho application l>y tho New' Zealand General Insurance Industrial Union of Workers for a new Dominion award. An umeuded offer was made by the employers. Mr. W. J. Mount joy, an agent, stated that they wero prepared to accept tho old award but conceded au ada’irional year for males, bringing the scale up to £340 in the fourteenth year, and an additional year for females, bringing the scalo up to £l7O in the seventh year. The union assessors agreed to consider the offer overnight. They intimated that the employers had not yet met the chief difficulty, a separate schedule for female dorks in tho life office und industrial depaitments. The union was strongly opposed to this. The hearing will be resumed tomorrow.
